Unofficial personal project. This is an unofficial, Jev-style fine-tune of EXAONE-4.0-1.2B made by an individual (carrtesy). It is not released, endorsed or supported by LG AI Research, and it is not affiliated with TypeSafe (Jev). "EXAONE" appears in the name only because the EXAONE license requires derivative models to keep it.
EXAONE-4.0-1.2B-JEV (v0.3, unofficial)
A Jev-style typed decision model fine-tuned from EXAONE-4.0-1.2B. Give it a state, a question and a fixed set of options; it answers with one option label, and the probability of every option is read from the logits at the answer position. No text is generated or parsed, so answers cannot go off-schema.
Code, server and evaluation: github.com/carrtesy/EXAONE-JEV. Research and non-commercial use only (EXAONE AI Model License 1.2 - NC).
Usage
Jev-compatible server
git clone https://github.com/carrtesy/EXAONE-JEV && cd EXAONE-JEV && bash setup.sh && source env.sh
hf download carrtesy/EXAONE-4.0-1.2B-JEV --revision v0.3 --local-dir weights
python serve/systemone_server.py --model weights --port 8000
POST /v1/systemone takes the TypeSafe Jev wire format (choice, noul, score) and returns
choice / probabilities / confidence (= 1 − H(p)/ln K). The server reads its settings from jev_config.json:
permute: 2: every question is read twice, with the options in the given and in the reversed order, and the two distributions are averaged (removes most position bias; about 2× compute).--permute 1turns it off.temperature_by_type: separate calibration temperatures fornoul, 2-option, 3–5-option and 6+-option choices.- Choices with more than 24 options are read in chunks plus a final read over the chunk leaders.

Training (v0.3)

Data: 227,529 rows, all from public training splits, rendered in the same decision format:
Rows Family 76,078 commonsense / science multiple choice (HellaSwag, WinoGrande, ARC, CommonsenseQA, OpenBookQA, SciQ, QASC, MMLU auxiliary train) 40,852 many-option intents (BANKING77, CLINC150), also in the server's chunked format for > 24 options 34,588 tev1 new-v1(v0.1's data), Jef's holdout groups removed25,265 detection as choiceandnoul(HaluEval, phishing, spam)17,597 NLI / fact checking (ANLI, FEVER) 15,450 tool selection (ToolACE) 10,358 sentiment / topic / emotion (financial sentiment, DBpedia, emotion) 7,341 when not to call a tool (When2Call train_pref: preferred vs rejected response) — new in v0.3Rows whose state or instructions overlap the Decision Index suite or JevBench public items were removed before training (exact / n-gram match).
-
Full fine-tuning, 1 epoch (7,110 steps), peak lr 2e-5, cosine, 200 warmup steps, effective batch 32, bf16. v0.3 is the first release trained with the intended schedule; v0.2's multi-GPU run had a scheduler bug (the cosine reached 0 at mid-epoch and rose again).
-
Loss: unchanged from v0.1. Full-vocabulary cross-entropy on the answer label and the end-of-turn token, written as
L_option + leakage + EOS, so the model picks an option, emits nothing but a valid label, and stops. Hard labels only. -
Released weights are the final step (dev accuracy 88.2%, dev NLL 0.304; the best-dev checkpoint scores the same).
-
Temperatures fitted by NLL on a held-out calibration split of the same sources (12,237 rows).
Evaluation
| Benchmark | v0.3 | v0.2 | v0.1 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jev Decision Index 0.2.1 (150,317 scoreable rows, 100% coverage) | 30.29 | 27.72 | 21.64 |
| JevBench public items (231) | 69.7% | 67.5% | 67.1% |
| tev1 holdout accuracy (3,784, same split as Jef; Jef Qwen3.5-4B: 88.85%) | 86.7% | 83.85% | 84.4% |
| tev1 holdout ECE after temperature (0% invalid in all versions) | 0.012 | 0.013 | 0.016 |
| Option-order consistency on the tev1 holdout (single read) | 94.2% | 92.5% | 91.8% |
| Latency median / p95 (A40, one request at a time, 750-row latency-v1-style sample) | 36 / 277 ms | 36 / 274 ms | 22 / 150 ms |
Decision Index areas (v0.2 → v0.3): knowledge 13.2 → 13.1, language 26.7 → 27.3, retrieval 39.0 → 41.0, tools 45.0 → 56.6, arts 13.7 → 13.1. For reference: stock EXAONE-4.0-1.2B 10.42, Tev1-0.8B 12.85, Decider 2B 28.97, Tev1-4B 29.24, Jev 57.91. JevBench tiers: easy 100%, original 91.7%, hard 42.3%.
Where the gain comes from. About 2.3 of the 2.6 index points over v0.2 come from the tools area, and almost all of that from one benchmark: When2Call MCQ went from 28.6 to 89.0 after training on When2Call's own train split in the same question framing. No suite question or tool definition appears in those training rows (766 exact matches were dropped; the remaining 7,341 rows share 0 questions and 0 tool definitions with the 3,652 suite rows), but it is in-distribution training data, not a general improvement. The other areas moved by less than 2 points.
These are self-reported numbers. The local Decision Index setup was checked against the board first (byte-identical suite, the kit's scorer tests pass, and a Decider 2B rerun with its author's server scored 29.22 vs the board's 28.97). Per-row results: carrtesy/decision-index-results.
Limitations
- The lead over Decider 2B (28.97) depends on When2Call train data (see above); knowledge, language and arts are still below it.
- Knowledge questions (MMLU-Pro, GPQA, HLE) remain close to chance: one forward pass of a 1.2B model.
- Binary detection ranks well but puts the threshold in the wrong place out of domain (PhishNChips, RAGTruth).
- Long-document NLI, humour and preference judgement are weak (ContractNLI, Humicroedit, cfcolor fell slightly).
- Calibrated in domain (tev1 ECE 0.012) but overconfident out of domain (Decision Index ECE about 0.17).
- Two reads per question roughly double latency compared with v0.1.
- English only.
